I've got a male coon dog that runs coon, he is silent on the track and when he gets to the tree all he does is wine. He won't open up and bark. He's a heck of tracker and will stay put on the tree, but will not open up. Any ideas.

Best hide hound we ever had was silent on track. True, you'd like to hear the music and know which way to go, but that hound put more coons up a tree than any we ever owned. Don't know the hounds age or history, and history is important when dealing with problems, so off hand all I could suggest it simple fixes. Play time. Coon scent on a tennis ball. Loving and playing will get him excited and probably barking at you. He'll want that ball and with some creative thinking and patience you'll have him mouthing in no time. Then go to a coon hide...and so on. Small treats when he barks. Hope it helps.
